Services

At Vision Excellence we understand that there are many optical and medical reasons why people don’t see well. Our optometrist and staff can provide impartial advice about all vision correction modalities and can either prescribe or give advice about each method. We can even give you a referral to another practitioner if we recognise that this is the best course for you but we will only refer you to ethical practitioners who have demonstrated the highest quality care and share our commitment to excellence.

The main optical disorders of the eye causing vision problems are myopia (short-sightedness or near-sightedness), hypermetropia (long-sightedness or far-sightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia (age-related change in vision). All of these conditions can be corrected in a number of ways, which include the traditional types of correction such as spectacles or contact lenses as well as the newer technologies such as orthokeratology (OrthoK) and surgical correction (refractive surgery). We will advise you about the safest and most effective options to correct your vision.

Services provided by Castle Hill Optometrist – Vision Excellence:

Comprehensive Eye Examination

Based on any symptoms you may have and a thorough eye and medical history of you and your family, our optometrist will conduct a comprehensive, thorough and appropriate measurement of your eyes and their health.

Refraction and Prescription

We do everything we can to accurately measure your spectacle or contact lens prescription and endeavour to get it perfect first time. We understand that having your eyes refracted can be stressful if you are rushed when giving your responses, which is why we allocate enough time to do the job properly.

Orthokeratology

The most exciting recent development of myopia correction and prevention, also known as OrthoK, is one of the specialities of Vision Excellence. This technology involves the use of rigid contact lens retainers to mould the eye during sleep, eliminating the need to wear spectacles or contact lenses during the day.

Children’s Vision and Orthoptics

We have a special interest in paediatric and children’s vision. We choose not to practise as behavioural optometrists. We offer a full check of a child’s eyes and a comprehensive assessment of the visual system including any abnormalities of binocular vision.

We provide the service of an experienced orthoptist who is university qualified to provide any therapy that will assist a child to see, learn and process visual information.

Our orthoptist specialises in eye movements and the straightness of eyes, especially in children, older adults and people who have suffered injury or trauma to their eyes or brain.

Contact Lenses Fitting

We fit contact lenses of all types and do not restrict our choice to just one type or brand or design of lenses. We have the facilities and expertise to fit soft and rigid gas-permeable lenses, multifocal contact lenses and disposable lenses including single-use ‘daily’ lenses. We also offer OrthoK contact lens wear (contact lens retainers that mould the eye while you sleep to allow you to see clearly during the day without any spectacles or contact lens correction).

Colour Vision Assessment

Most people have normal colour vision but about 10% of men and 0.5% of women do not see some colours as well as the rest of the population. This deficiency in colour vision (often wrongly called colour blindness) is usually of no major consequence. However, for some people, especially young men, their colour vision status can have major restrictions on career options. We can analyse and quantify any issues with colour vision to assist them with advice about their vocational choices.

Glaucoma Screening

Keratoconus Screening

Keratoconus is a relatively common condition that is often misdiagnosed as astigmatism in the early stages. We are equipped to detect keratoconus early so that timely treatment can lessen the impact on vision in the future.

Diabetic Eye Health Screening and Vision Care

Diabetes can have a profound impact on your vision so all diabetics should be checked at least once a year for any deterioration of eye health or vision. We will thoroughly check your eyes for any diabetic changes to the retina (known as diabetic retinopathy) and will keep a record of your vision and eye health status for comparison in the future.

Driving Vision Advice

Driving is not just about clear vision.

To be a safe driver, good visual acuity (sharpness) must be combined with good binocular vision and depth perception (stereopsis and eye teaming) to maintain a comfortable single image of the driving environment free of diplopia (double vision). There must also be a complete field of vision, free of scotomas (abnormal blind spots) and without any restriction of the visual fields that can result from trauma or disease of the eyes or brain. Safe driving can also be compromised by excessive glare caused by cataracts and other opacities in the eye. We are fully equipped with perimetry for visual field analysis and comprehensive measurement of binocular vision, visual acuity and glare.
